The details of Monday’s closed hearing in the Britney Spears-Kevin Federline custody battle are finally out. Addressing both parents, Los Angeles judge Scott Gordon recited a lengthy list of rules that both must follow with respect to their children.
According to the judge, “based on the evidence presented, the Court finds that there is a habitual, frequent, and continuous use of controlled substances by Petitioner [Spears].” Britney will have to undergo random testing twice a week for drugs and alcohol, and the results will be submitted to the court.
Other rulings affecting both Spears and Federline include orders that:
- Neither can take the children out of state without the written consent of the other.
- They may not make derogatory statements about each other.
- Both must complete the “Parenting Without Conflict” program.
- Both are prohibited from spanking the children or allowing anyone else to do so.
- They must attend joint co-parenting counseling.
Britney is under additional requirements that were not extended to Federline. These include weekly counseling about parenting issues and meetings with a parenting coach twice a week for a total of 8 hours per week.
Friends and family of Spears have expressed concern about her parenting skills, but at least one believes that Britney’s bad parenting is mostly the result of not knowing what to do. “She loves her children so much, but it’s like she’s never been taught how to properly take care of them,” the source says.
For the time being, Spears and Federline will retain 50-50 custody of their children as the judge’s orders attempt to stabilize their situation.
In other Britney news: the Pop-Tart has replaced the attorney she’d hired to replace attorney Laura Wasserman. This is not a good sign for those hoping Britney finally owns up to her problems and deals with them, rather than continuing to blame those around her.
UPDATE: According to TMZ, Britney decided to respond to the judge’s orders by spending the evening club-hopping last night. Yeah, that‘ll show him, Britney.
