Ellen Degeneres shocked viewers last week as she tearfully recounted the tale about how Mutts & Moms, a pet adoption agency, took back the dog Ellen had adopted and then given to her hair dresser’s family. The agency’s rules specifically state that pet owners are to return animals to the organization if they decide they can no longer keep them.
But that’s not what Ellen did. Instead, she gave the dog — Izzy — to her hair dresser’s family and his 11-year-old daughter fell in love with it. That, too, is against the agency’s rules which prohibit placement of dogs in homes with children under the age of 14. So the agency yanked the dog and found it a new home, breaking the 11 year-old girl’s heart, according to Ellen.
It’s not the first time that Degeneres picked a pooch and then turned it over to someone else. LA producer Kerri Randles says she’d given Ellen a dog two years ago that the talk-show host later decided she didn’t want.
Not that Ellen hadn’t taken her time to make up her mind over the mutt: Randles claims she was pumped by Ellen’s staff for hours before the comedienne decided to take the dog home with her for a few nights to “see how if he’d fit into her home”. Two months later, Randles learned that Ellen had given the dog away to someone else.
Radio talk show host Howard Stern says he’s heard that Ellen has done the same thing with nine other dogs. Nine, folks.
Seriously, Ellen, how many dogs will it take to figure out that you’re a cat person?
