Jennifer Lopez won her lawsuit against ex-husband Ojani Noa, who had planned to pen a “tell all” book about the singer’s alleged multiple affairs during their brief marriage.
Noa has been prohibited from publishing any negative, denigrating or disparaging details about Lopez. He was also ordered to pay her $545,000, which includes a $200,000 award for damages along with attorney and arbitration fees. (There is no word whether Noa will seek one of those structured settlements that allow payments over time or if he will pay the amount in a lump-sum.)
He was also ordered to turn over all copies of the manuscript to Lopez’s legal team.
Noa and Lopez were married in February 1997 and divorced less than a year later. During that time, Noa claims, Lopez had numerous affairs including one with her third (and current) husband, Marc Anthony. The book also described Noa and Lopez’s first sexual encounter, which reportedly took place on a balcony at the Doubletree hotel in Miami.
In April 2006, Lopez filed a lawsuit to prevent Noa from publishing the salacious details of their brief marriage. That suit was settled in June 2006 when Noa agreed to a preliminary injunction prohibiting such disclosures for monetary gain. He had previously made a similar agreement in an earlier lawsuit. Lopez’s attorney claims that Noa’s efforts to sell his book earlier this year constituted a breach of that agreement and a violation of the previous court order.
Noa was not represented by an attorney and his request for an additional 30 days to hire one was denied.
Lopez’s attorney claims that the star’s damages to her reputation and business could easily exceed $10 million if the book was published (although Lopez herself denies the allegations within the book). Noa had previously offered not to publish the book if Lopez would pay him $5 million.
